Why was the e-mail altered?

Terracom Network Services / TNS.net has implemented a policy to identify SPAM (also known as unsolicited commercial e-mail). Each incoming e-mail is scanned for signs that it may be SPAM, and if it is determined that it's likely to be SPAM, it is altered to clearly reflect this, so that you -- the user -- can decide whether to delete or keep it. We do not block or delete the message we simply make it easier for you to identify. If you have concerns about the scanning policy, please send email to support@tns.net and we will happily help you.

But the message was not SPAM!

Sometimes the system will get a "false positive", resulting in tagged mails which are not actually SPAM at all. Since spammers don't usually highlight the fact that their mail is unwanted, unsolicited ads, we have to try to work it out -- and it's not always easy to do. You may find that mailing lists that you are subscribed to or newsletters may have be marked as spam. This is usually becuase the way that these messages are sent out mimics the methodology that spammers use.

But I Don't Get Much SPAM!

Count yourself lucky, then! The longer your email address stays valid, the more spam you will get. It may not be a problem for you -- yet -- but others find it very frustrating. Some recent research has indicated that several ISPs find their incoming mail is between 30% and 50% spam, overall; and quite a few old-timers who've used the same address for years, get over 30 SPAMs a day. If you don't get much SPAM, you probably find this more annoying than useful. In this case, see How Can I Turn It Off?, below.

What can I do with the messages that are maked as spam?

Most modern email clients including Eudora, Netscape Mail, Outlook and Outlook Express allow you to filter your message based on the subject line. You should create a folder called spam in your email software and then have the messages that match *****SPAM***** automatically moved to this new folder. This will give you the opportunity to have this mail moved out of your inbox and into its own folder. We do not recommend you setting your email client to delete these messages automatically. This may result in mail that is important to you getting deleted without you having the opportunity to review the message.

We do not delete your mail, we simply mark it on the subject line to provide you with a simply way to filter your own email.

How Can I Turn It Off?

Please notify us if you just want all your mail, unfiltered. Please send email to support@tns.net requesting that we "add your address to the whitelist_to list".
